After one season in New England, three-time Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott is returning to the place where he starred for his first seven seasons.
Elliott has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys, pending a physical, according to an NFL Media report.
The two-time NFL rushing champion had four 1,000-yard seasons in Dallas and scored 80 touchdowns before he was released in the 2023 offseason. His production was down last year in New England, rushing for 642 yards, but he did prove to be effective in short-yardage and goal-line situations − areas where the Cowboys struggled last season.
NFL DRAFT TAKEAWAYSEzekiel Elliott could be running back to Cowboys for reunion
Over his eight NFL seasons, Elliott has rushed for 8,904 yards and 71 touchdowns. He's also been an effective receiver out of the backfield with 356 catches for 2,649 yards and 14 scores.

He joins a backfield that lost former starter Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans in free agency this offseason. The Cowboys currently have veterans Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Royce Freeman on the roster. They opted not to select any running backs in the just-completed NFL draft, which may have helped open the door for a reunion with Elliott.
